Hultsfred Festival Sweden Hultsfred, SW (Aug/13/1994)

From: Jan Sundstrom

Verve played as the last band of the whole festival, really late (2 am?), in the venue called "Teaterladan". It was an eerie atmosphere, and the crowd was very quiet, just listening in suspense.

Richard wore a pajama top, and was unearthily skinny. In the backlighting, he looked like a skeleton. There were nice psychedelic slides and pictures projected, spirals spinning, angels, hypnotics.

They played "I've been on the shelf too long" (an early version of "This is music" remember this was almost a year before the single was released!) and some unreleased tracks: "Mover" and "We are the rolling people", with the members from Oasis on handclap.

The show was radio broadcast, so everyone was happy to have the rare songs :-)

After the show, there was Richards famous hotel-bashing, together with Oasis and Primal Scream. It was all over the papers. Great festival.

It said "psychedelic, floating" in the festival guide, but they played at 2 am or something, so none of my friends went. It was only me I was pretty drunk and really tired. They played in the "theatre" and the place was packed. I couldn't really see them so I just sat down and looked at the lightshow they had. I had never heard them before, but I was completely mesmerized.

I convinced my friend to buy their album. He bought "A Storm In Heaven". I borrowed it and made a copy. I had not seen very many of their albums in Sweden and I never had the money to buy anyway. Now I'm an exchange student in the US, and records are really affordable here. I bought both "A Storm.." and the EP at the same time. Of course they are both awesome. I don't know what to buy next. "A Northern Soul" maybe, but it got pretty bad reviews when it came out in Sweden. Anyway, I hadn't heard that they had reunited until I happen to come to your page. I'm excited because I had lost all hope of seeing them live again, but now I might get to do it again after all.
