| Better show tonite... Richard was bellowing better, and the band was more with it... RA had much techinical guitar trouble, and seemed to be getting agitated... During downtime, band was just jamming, with RA singing impromptu about New York.... Only song different was "Lord I Guess I'll Never Know" rather than "So Sister" Before "Lord..." Richard said he'd play a new song and if he "fucked" it up, he'd play another one... BJ Cole must be pretty decent, cos he picked up all of the songs in a short period of time...

| Having never been to any previous verve shows I can safely say that the verve rocked. I did miss Nick, but they were in top form without him. (as good as they could be without him) So Sister, Come On, and See You In The Next One were definitly the high points. I was truly amazed at how flawless Richard' s voice was. (especially since he ws under the influence of something) He has so much energy and stange presence. He is the quintessence of what a vocalist should be. And they all seemed happy to be there. A few things did piss me off though........some people looked absolutely clueless when they played songs off Northern Soul, and the absence of Nick sucked! Anyway, I hope they dont break up b/c if they were that good last night I can't imagine how they'd be with Nick... |

| Basically the same setlist as the other shows, the
highlights being See You in the Next One, History, On Your Own, Come On, and
So Sister. It was a pretty cheesy crowd, there were people around me that
didn't even know the UH songs! And there were little kids with parents with
them!!! Anyway, doors opened at 8:00, but they didn't play until something like 9:15. Again, there was no opening band, no Asian Dub Foundation. Just a DJ spinning some tunes, some stuff like dubby reggae, a Massive Attack song, and a couple of Primal Scream. There was also a slide show with it, although the crowd started cheering when the stagepeople took the screens away. BJ Cole was so low in the mix, you can hardly hear him, except for some of the guitar parts usually played by Nick. Simon teased the crowd with the basslines of Gravity Grave, but didn't happen. Tongy was a bit shy as usual. Peter was amazing and Richard was top notch. Richard did introduce the percussionist and BJ Cole, but didn't say anything about Nick or not coming back (either good or bad, depending on your own opinions). Richard had the Reni hat and the Mick Jagger T-shirt again. But like everyone else said, it was a good Urban Hymns show, but it wasn't the Verve. To me it was special though, having missed the Northern Soul tour and the one last winter. |
