| This was a long time ago so I can't remember too much
(like who supported). However, I do remember that She's A Superstar had only been out a week or so and the basis of hearing this I managed to convince someone to drive to Aylesbury. The civic centre - a bizarre place to play - a swimming pool with a few function rooms attached producing a pre-gig atmosphere similar to that at a school disco. Stranger still - it seemed that the lads had forgotten to come - as at 10p.m. they still had not arrived on stage. Half past ten - no sign of life - the crowd becoming impatient - my friends threatening to leave - me attempting to convince them that it would be worth it. They came on about 10:40 and were amazing. Gravity Grave (I didn't know the title at the time) included a live flute player. Even at that early stage of their existence, Nick had mastered the 'guitar wall of sound'. Richard just seemed like a dream - a very thin man with more energy than the whole audience combined. I was an addict from that moment on until the present day. There were the annoying fools who 'moshed' (excuse me using that word) as if they were at a Soundgarden gig, but most just stared in amazement. After all, probably no one had ever seen or heard anything to compare with this in their (mostly) young lives. |
