| This show was at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago. I cant remember the name of the opening band, but they weren't good. I think I heard someone say they were from Detroit. Anyway, the place was packed and the atmosphere was perfect for seeing them. no pushing, no shoving. just great songs. They played most of "A Northern Soul." also, they played new songs "Mover", "Come On", and "Rolling People" (which I knew from a BBC live performance). Richard played "Drugs Don't Work Anymore" solo. it was the best song they did all night and 3/4 of the band weren't even on stage. I was standing against the front railing of the balcony overlooking the stage. in between songs, one blue spotlight was revolving around the room and for some reason it stopped on my face. I looked down to find Richard staring at me. his eyes are pretty frightening when they're focused on you. I kind of froze, then I smiled and waved. he nodded back, someone screamed "She's A Superstar" and they proceeded to play that song. it was a great show, they ended w/ "Gravity Grave" (as usual). but not before Richard mentioned that "Chicago" was "the best fucking place to play in America." |
