Irving Plaza New York, NY, US (Jul/25/1995)

From: Tilman

I don't remember the song list from the Irving Plaza show, but Richard did a solo acoustic tune towards the end of the show. I recognized probably half the songs from ASIH plus Gravity Grave, and stuff from ANS. The opening act were Hum from Champaigne, Illinois. They were formula-grunge crap and very loud, but I'm sure some will beg to differ. The Verve were great. I came home to my roommate and told him this band will either be the biggest thing on the planet soon or they will overdose. They played with that kind of edgey greatness. I was saddened to hear of the break-up, and somehow have my suspicions about replacing McCabe. It's just never the same again. I saw AC/DC with Bon Scott twice and that's the band I loved. I'll be curious to hear stuff from the Verve members, anyhow.

The one thing I remember really well about this show is that it reminding me so much of the Stone Roses show at Manhattan Center Ballroom in NYC. It was only about 2 months later. The lightls were very similar. There were colored streams of light. I believe the acoustic song that Richard played was the Drugs Don't Work
