| Wow, wow, wow, wow! I just got back a little while ago
from seeing the boys for the first time. I am still in shock. It was
amazing. Since I am at a loss for words I'll just post the set list and some
things that I happen to remember. The list may not be in order but it should be close. Rolling People- when it first started the lights were amazing! Catching the Butterfly Weeping Willow This is music Slide Away Drugs Don't work Sonnet BSS Life's An Ocean Stormy Clouds/Reprise On YOur Own A New Decade Lucky Man History Come ON It seemed like Richard spoke a lot tonight. HE was wearing his little "Detroit,Michigan" t-shirt,and he spoke about how they had played in that venue before. Right before COme ON, they played a little of Gravity Grave and Richard said something like "oh you want that song, well we would play it for you but SImon doesn't have some string (or something_) that makes the song so good. But don't worry we'll be back soon to Detroit and we will definetly play GG" That was pretty cool. At some points you could tell that he was losing his voice or had just gotten over something. Overall though his voice was really good. One problem was that you couldn't even see SImon Tong and he didn't do much really. I mean he played a little guitar and all but still you couldn't even see him. Oh well that's not really my problem to deal with. It was definetly one of the best shows I have ever seen! Walking out of the place everyone was basically saying how good they are and how that is most likely one of the last times you will ever see them in a venue so small. IMO I hope not, cause i want to be that close to the stage again and I want to be able to see the people playing the music. Some people have said that the sound has been muddy or something, I thought it was fine, granted right now my ears are ringing a bit. It was just so good though, the show. I am speechless and in shock over how amazing that truly was. All I can say is how amazing it was so that's it for me for now. |

| The show was packed to the gill with people. It appeared
as though they were selling tickets to it tonight which was weird since it
was supposed sold out. Maybe they were on the guestlist er something. They
did open up 25 seats on Friday for it I just found out today. Well They
played the same set list as Boston. At some point in the show, RA asked the
audience "how does it sound tonight." He said "they finally got it right.,"
er something like that. I assume he wasn't too pleased with the sound at
previous shows. He also mumbled somethig about Detroit being one of his
favorite places to play but i couldn't quite make it all out. Well RA
exorcised his demons and spread his voodoo magic tonight in Detroit. This
was especially evident on the last encore of "Come On". Truely amazing.
During the encore, they played the opening bass line to "Gravity Grave" but
RA said Nick didn't have the proper effects pedals. This was because some
people where yelling for them to play it. I should also point out they where
also video recording at this show. Richard is still crazed mad genius in my opinion. The show was pretty great though i'm not sure it was as "Godly" as in 1993 at St. Andrews (yes william 1993, i just looked at my ticket stub). About 2/3 through the show i found my perfect spot in front of the mixing boards only to be harrassed by some big ugly and rather large and i mean large security people. bastards! it was the best spot sound wise for the show i though but these big belugas kept boguing my high and asking to move. i wasn't too pleased. I also had the pleasure of meeting and speaking briefly with Brian Cannon of Microdot fame. You know the guy who does the covers for them and Oasis? He was nice guy as well. Said he's know the band for 9 years. Lastly, I spoke with this guy who works with an acquantance (my sister's recent ex's brother), who got to drive the band around town and who partied with them on Sunday night in Detroit. I guess they're big Jack Daniel drinkers and wanted to ingest just about anything in sight and i mean drug wise included. but who really knows. gossip is a powerful weapon. I later inquired about how much it would cost me so-to-speak to meet the band and he gave me the runaround sort of, He said they had to get going to Toronto soon after and didn't know if they were going out to party afterwards. oh well, i nearly got to meet them if only my sister hadn't been just dumped it would have been a shoe in :( i think that's about it. signing off one hour after showtime. all my demons were exorcised. thanks richard and co. |

| Well, i just got home from the detroit show after a few
drinks at the loop and food at the ecletcic cafe, excuse my spelling and
grammar, my mates and i had 2 bottles of champange each before the show and
its still treating me real good. The set list for the detroit show was almost the exact same as the boston show, but i think the verve were much more into this show. Richard referred to Detroit as the "FUCKING TOP" and it really showed. I've been to a lot of concerts and i've never felt so much energy - from the band and from the crowd. Right from the first song the verve had everyone entranced. And for you gossip mongers, even Nick seemed to be having a good time, the band was just so tight. I am just in a state of bliss. They were filming and they shot a lot of film - almost the entire show. I was front and center with only 2 people in front of me for the entire show and then just before the encore the guy in front of me left (incidently he was wearing a rolling people t-shirt?) and then there was no one but me and Richard. Just damn bloody amazing. I'll probably find some way up to toronto tomorrow and some way into the show. Anyways i dont know how informational this post is, but what the hell the verve have effected me in ways i never thought possiable, so i figure a little rambling is ok. ps. watch the slideshow i wish i had seen all of it. |

| Ahhhhhhh!!! THat was fucking cool!!!! Detroit!!! Just got back about 5 mins ago, it is about 2:30 am now. Show ended around 11 and my ears are STILL ringing. I was probably about 10 "rows" back and just in front of the slide show screen on the (facing the stage) right side. I cannon even give justice to what happened tonight. Fucking awesome. We left home late becuase I friend was working so that was bad. Then we were making our way over there and we were fine then we got into Downtown detroit and lost tack of Route 10 or whatever that was. SO we were drive around a while then stopped at this theater and asked where it was and we drove a little more and eventually got their. Well all in all we arived at about 8:30 pm and we were standing around still for about at least an hour until they came out. One of the coolest points of the night was when Rich said "A new decade........the radio plays the songs we make. At least some of them do. ITS ABOUT FUCKING TIME!" Yeah that was cool. And some other time he was talking about how they've played St. Andrews before and how they like it so much and I think he was being sincere, not just some showbiz bull shit. Then he said something to the effect of "This is for those who still dont get it" and they played Lucky Man. It was cool cause he came out with a Detroit, Michigan ringer t on and pointed to it. It was cool. I cannon give a song by song review because the whole night just melted together, and to be honest I dont remember the set list but they did begin with The Rolling People and that was cool casue they all walked out then Rich took his coat of and "Boom Boom........Boom Boom". You knew that was it. It was fucking live. SLIDE AWAY and STORMY COULDS were played. My eyes were closed for TDDW, Sonnet (when he said "This song is called Sonnet, I though he said "This song is called Summit" and so I was quite confused) On Your Own and History. One of the high points of the night was druing History. I had my eyes closed and was mouthing the words when one of the lights swung over my way. I felt like I was in my own little world at that point with no Idea what was going on. And yes just before Come On (I think, correct me if Im wrong) again the Gravity Grave rif was played and everyone was saying "Yeah!!" Then Rich said something like "We would play that but Simon doesnt have the right effects with him that really make that song" but he promised that they would play it when they come back next year. Which I dont know about becuase; a. It seems as though if they would be touring another country that they might want to bring all their equipment; 2. If they didnt have it they could've rented it from somewhere and; c. Had they really wanted to play it and couldnt rent it they couldve sent for it. SO I think there were other reasons they didnt play it. I liked the overall mix but thought the strigns were too low on BSS, but then again maybe I was just deaf. The lights and the whole atmosphere of the place was all good. WHat else? I dont know I will think of something though. Anyway it was soo cool. Oh this sucks. I bought one of those cool black shirts with the reverb unit on it, but what I didnt know until I got outside was that it was one of those fucking small showing off your tits shirts. So I put it on anyway and even my breasts are sticking out. It was wierd how closely dressed rich and I were. We both had ringer t's and blue jeans. Wierd. Anyway, that is all I can think of now but there WILL be more Im guessing. Oh on the way out I heard some guy say "It was a lot louder than Atlanta" but hey its cool. Anyway it is 3:00 am now and I have school tomorrow so I guess Ill be going now for I have school in a few hours. VERVELUV!!!!! |

| Richard comes out wearing A Fatty looking pimp coat takes
it off and sets the nite off right by jumping into rolling people with a
Wicked Light setup. Slide Away I think was played to early in the show, like
the 4th song. Nick teased everyone later on with Gravity Grave but Richard
said they didn't have the shit to pull it off right. Richard said Detroit
was in the top 10 of his favorite venues to be playing , then declared It to
be the 'fucking' best venue to playing, all while sporting some cheesy ass
Detroit Michigan shirt, which was cool for him to wear. After leaving the
stage for about 2 min, with the lights still aglow, Richard came out alone
and played DDW, very mellow, very cool. The encore (aka the second set, 5
songs long) Flowed nice which included a New Decade that blew every ones
soul open only to be top by the final song COME ON, With Intense Lights,
Intense Emotion from all the Verve COME ON put the show to a close with a
orgasmic Jam. GREAT SHOW!! ONLY ONE THING...the people at the show, and I
mean 90% of the people were like stung up on heroin or something, No one
danced, and when the Verve would Finish a song, I think Richard and myself
could of had a conversation it was so quite, Was it just me or did anyone
else think the Verve was playing in a bloody library? Detroit might have
been his fav venue before this show, but with as much emotion from the
crowed they received I think he might have a new one. WAKE UP PEOPLE, DANCE,
GO CRAZY IT'S THE VERVE!!! Thanks to the Scalpers who hooked me and my
friend up, And Hey, There Was No Opening Band Or Deejay. Just Pics By the Verve, and Sayings By Richard On the Walls ex; holy are you, you should president of the U.S., ect. And the Verve Shirts For sale are Ugly, I like the older ones better....See ya in the next one......? |

| Sorry if this is repeated but just joined the list. Went
to the Detroit show on Monday and thought it was way cool. The band seemed
really into the show (something you don't always feel these days. For those
of you not from Detroit, St Andrews it the only place to see a show and the
Verve seemed to feel very comfortable here. Richard even had a cheesy
Detroit t-shirt on (that was really cool). It is hard not to sound good at
St. Andrews but they really filled the hall and the light show was top
notch. To those complaining about the crowd....I think everyone was just feeling the groove (with or without Heroin) The mood of the crowd could have been more upbeat but should stay high on their list. |

| My first thought when I woke up that morning was, I made
it till Monday...what an awesome show! Got some decent pictures of Simon and
Richard going into St. Andrew's before the show. I couldn't bring my camera
in so that's all I got on Monday. Plus a picture of me and Kate Radley. She
seemed a bit "distracted" and the picture wasn't all that great, but she
signed my ticket, so that's cool. While I was waiting outside, I heard the
boys play Velvet Morning as a sound check. But they didn't play it!! Opening with Rolling People was a fantastic choice! The light show was great! I was definately pumped to get crazy at that show. Loved the green and blue lighting for Catching the Butterfly, and the red lighting for the Drugs Don't Work. I was surprised that Rich played On Your Own. Still loved it though. Lucky Man sounded awesome live. Richard was really talkative during the show. You could tell he was happy to play there. I was so happy that they played Slide Away. Nice tease there that Simon did with the bass line for Gravity Grave. I was about ready to die when I heard that. Cheers to the guy who threw that lit joint on stage. Simon picked it up and hit it so fast, he was a blur of movement. Come On was incredible. I think everyone on the floor surged forward about 6 feet when that song started. I was happily crushed. Wish I could say more about the show but nothing comes to mind at the moment. DID ANYONE GET A GOOD BOOT OF THIS SHOW?! I know of three people who made a copy and they said that the bass was too much and drowned out everything. I WOULD REALLY LIKE A COPY OF THIS SHOW. Please write to me if you got a good copy. |
