THe opening act was two screens showing slides of pictures and lyrics....there was even some lyrics from Big Star...hum.... Richard did not wear shoes, as par usual, and kept shouting things at the crowd. GREAT show. |

| Just a note...the show was awesome. Slide show beforehand
was neat and the song selection was great. And the big suprise was the first
song in the encore...Richard played "Space and Time" with the acoustic
guitar. It sounded beautiful. I'm sure other setlist will be posted and I
don't recall the order, but the songs played were... --setlist was cut out--ajay Come back guys. And this time, bring better t-shirts. |

| I saw the show last night at the Vic in Chicago. This was
the second time I have seen them. The first one was back in '95 at the Metro
in Chicago. I was blown away by that one so I wasn't going to miss this one.
I prepared myself to be disappointed but I was not. They were incredible. My
girlfriend and another couple, Sue and Jeffery saw them for the first time
and they were just as impressed. The crowd was really hip. Lotta cool people, inside and out. Thanks to the dude in silver who entrusted me with his silver lighter. It made the show that much better. I can say without even a sliver of a doubt, they are the best band I have ever seen in concert. See them if you have the chance. They'll be too big soon. |

| Having seen the Verve at the Vic Theatre in Chicago last Thursday, I'd just like to say I thought they were better in 1995 at the Metro. I wasn't disappointed with the performance, but they seemed to lack the enthusiasm I saw before. In my determination to be "right down front" (by Devin, the ultimate Verve fan who was seeing his 6th show on this tour!) I didn't take into account that the sound might be less than I'd like. I was standing on the right side and couldn't hear Nick's guitar too well. I was, however, able to hear Simon's guitar quite well (when he wasn't playing keyboards). I've seen people post that they wonder just what his role is in the band--IMO he adds to the depth of the music, i.e., giving it a "thicker" feel. The song selection was fine with me: "Space and Time" acoustic was purely wonderful, "History" was great as was "Slide Away," and the songs from UH were pure Verve (as if I didn't already know that!). "Weeping Willow" was all I could have hoped for! What a great tune!!! For all those people who complained about the new material, it's still the Verve, it still SOUNDS like the Verve, and I was impressed. Simon Jones was having a helluva great time, always smiling and getting into the groove! It was so nice to be surrounded by fellow Verve lovers, most of whom knew the words to all the new stuff as well as ANS and the one ASIH tune. |

| Ok, after having a couple days to think about it, I now know what to say. The November 13th show at the Vic in Chicago was incredible. After seeing them for the second time (the first being in '94 at Lollapallooza) I can now say that they are one of the best live bands Ive ever heard! After showing up late...about a half hour or so, I was so relieved to find that the guys were also a little late, not taking the stage until about 8:30. There wasnt an opening band or DJ or anything although they had an amusing slideshow, with some cool pictures and slogans and stuff. The lads made it onto stage about 8:30 and started with A New Decade, which kicked some ass and got the crowd going. They went on to mix it up pretty good between A Northern Soul and Urban Hyms. I was a little disappointed that the only song they played from A Storm in Heaven was Slide Away (which is one of my favs) and they didnt play Gravity Grave or Butterfly...but hey...I shouldnt be bitching. They did an awesome version of History, which I was really impressed with, and they also played Drugs Dont Work, which blew me and my friends away! They ended the show with a hard and powerful version of Come On...Richard was yelling at the crowd and jumping up and down...it was pretty intense. I think they only played for about an hour and 45 minutes but they were incredible. It was such a great show that my friend wasnt all that mad when we found out his car was towed and he had to pay 105 bucks to get it back! I gotta see them again and this time Im not gonna wait another 3 years! |

| They were excellent, although they were a few downers,
one was that the only t-shirts left were baby-doll t-shirts. When we got
there my wife and I went up to the balcony so that we wouldn't have to mess
with the constant pushing and shoving that usually goes with seeing a band.
I'm getting too old) I was happy to find that the balcony was pretty graded,
ensuring an clean view of the band for my wife and I. The dj was pretty
good, playing mostly obscure stuff (at least obscure to me) I did however
hear 'Wrote For Luck' by the Mondays and 'Jumping Jack Flash' from The
Stones. The images on the screens were pretty interesting. Anyway an hour
after the posted time on the ticket the band came out, and to our surprise
and disappointment no body on the balcony stood up to groove, actually most
the balcony looked dead. Anyway the band rocked, they were loud but not too loud (my ears were'nt ringing the next day). Catching the Butterfly was sweet, I was looking in amazement at Nicks guitar from the sounds that were coming out of it. Every song was a stormer, the begining part of The Rolling People with the lights was great. I was dissapointed that there was no 'On Your Own' but happy to see the first playing of 'Space and Time' it was totally mind blowing, with Rich solo on his acousitic. I wish Richard was a bit mre animated during the show, he barely addressed the crowd at all, but seeing the whole balcony seated doesn't do much for wanting to get really into it. (although he probably was) My wife, who was tired of me always talking about the band, loved it, we both can't wait til the next one. |

| Well, I wanted to go to Toronto but I had to at least go
to work/school one day that week so I skipped that show and went to Chicago.
Got there at about 4:30 and pulled up to our hotel which is right around the
corner of the Vic. When we pulled up to the hotel, a tour bus was right out
front and I totally started tripping out. When we checked in I asked the
lady who was in the bus out front and she said, "Some band that's playing
here tonight. I've never heard of them before." I asked her if it was a band
called the Verve and she said, "Yeah, I think that's who it is." and I
started freaking out and then she said, "Oh, no...it's a band called KDFM...or
something like that." Grrr...needless to say I was disappointed. Well, I
grubbed out on some Chicago Stuffed Pizza (I love eating in Chicago...best
food in the States) and then walked to the Vic. We moved up to the front of
the venue and waited... Met Vicky & Doug...nice talking to you guys. Did you dig the show? I'm sure you did. Good thing no fights broke out between my boyfriend and that one chick that was all pushy-shovey. For a second I thought it was going to get ugly. :) Wow...this show was awesome as well! Though it seemed that Richard wasn't as enthusiastic. He didn't talk to the crowd at all...and didn't really get crazy except for Come On. But it was an excellent show and the only set list difference was SPACE AND TIME ACOUSTIC! That was SO nice! What was up with the "new song" they played at the end of...oh shit, I'm pretty sure it was after Come On. Does anyone else know what I am talking about? They finished a song and everyone started clapping and while we were clapping they broke into this SWEET jam and Richard was doing some abstract vocal thing...it was really fast and crazy...anybody remember that and can help me out in describing it? It was almost like a reprise to Come On. It was a nice, nice little psychadelic swirl at the end of the show. |
