Club Dv8 Salt Lake City, UT, US (Nov/15/1993)

From: John Ricci

The first and only time I saw the Verve was in November of 1993, it was their support tour of A Storm In Heaven. They had played an acoustic set at a local radio station, X96, and they said that tickets would be 96 cents. The place where they were playing was called DV8. It's a very cool place to see a band, especially Verve.

They played a few from A Storm In Heaven, Starsail, Slide Away, Virtual World, Blue, Make it Til' Monday, The Sun The Sea and some b-sides as well, Man called sun, Superstar, Gravity Grave, and a couple others. Every song was amazing, but there are a couple songs that stand out in my mind, one was Blue, and the other was the Gravity Grave. There were slide projectors on each side of the stage, and they were projecting these space-like images onto the screens behind him. There were pictures of stars and the sky, and all these different images. It was incredible, you could see that they were in such a groove, Richard would stretch his hands out on Blue, and stars would project on his hands and arms-They were amazing, absolutely amazing. They were so electric, you just have to see it to believe it. Gravity Grave was the same, they went off, and jammed and Nick was just incredible, working his pedals, and creating this sort of visual music, something that you could see and feel. I was so amazed, I had never seen anyone with such presence whose music had been so powerful. There's something about them live, that elevates their music to an even higher level, and it changes everything, for the better.
