La Luna Portland, Or, US (Nov/20/1993)
Notes: Supported by Acetone

From: Scott Palmer

The gig Verve played on 11/20/93 in Portland, Oregon was at a Venue called "La Luna" which was a normal stopping point for similar style bands. (I've seen James, Luna, and Oasis there to name a few) It's relatively small (about 500 max) and is bi-level, with a balcony that is outfitted with couches and a close circuit TV.
Anyway, the show was in mid-week and cost only $2. The poster for it had a particularly ugly pit bull on the front, it jaws being held open for the camera? Not particularly Verve like, but I imagine it was some friend of the venue or something. Acetone opened for them and they had the stage outfitted with a bunch of old table lamps and chairs. Verve left most of that stuff there for their performance. There must have been only 50 of us there and we were all clustered in the front, gaping at this....man...Richard was manic (as I came to understand later) and was particularly miffed at the small crowd. He kept urging the crowd to thrash about, and after a particularly disappointing reaction from us, he moaned "Nobody understands my music" At the time, I thought he was joking, but who knows....
