| This is my second time catching Verve play LA. I was
totally surprised that they are playing this show because they just toured
USA a few months back. The Variety Arts Center is a horrible place to play
because it has a bunch of seats and it was a *really* bad part of LA. My brother, Vic, and I got to the show a few hours before the doors were scheduled to open and We actually met Richard Ashcroft!!! I was so amazed. There were those other girls there but I think they went to talk to Nick or Simon, I don't remember who else came in with Richard. Her is what my brother and I said: Vic: Hey, aren't you Richard Ashcroft? Richard: Yeah, hey man what's you name? Vic: Oh, my name is Vic and this is my brother Ajay (that's me). (We all shake hands!) Ajay: Hey, how's it going? Richard: Great. Vic: Are you guys gonna play All in the Mind? Richard: No. Vic: What about 6 o'clock? Ajay: How 'bout South Pacific Richard: We'll play that one (he pointed to Vic), but not that one (he pointed at me. Then he left and I look in my other hand (the one that didn't shake his) and saw my camera!! DAMN, why couldn't I form the words, "Hey, can I get a picture?" I'm going to be kicking myself for that on forever! These quotes are WORD for WORD what Vic and I said. Well, we finally go in the show and there was one dude with a big head between me and the stage. Verve were excellent because they actually had a really good light show this time around. They played a lot of songs from the first time I saw them (hey, they only had one album and a handful of singles at the time). The best songs of the night were the different ones. They played Feel, 6 o'clock, and like a 15 minute version of Gravity Grave. They also played the usual She's A Superstar, Man Called Sun, Virtual World, Blue, Slide Away, Starsail (opened with that one), emmm... The Sun, the Sea (this was the song that they ended their set with before comming back for the encore). Oh yeah, a really funny thing happened during the break between songs. This wack girl pushed her way up to the front of the stage and started yelling at Richard. She was saying stuff like, "FUCK YOU RICHARD!" It was really funny because that's a bad place to start yelling at Mad Richard. The fans were getting pissed at this psycho chick. So some dude yelled, "KICK HER IN THE HEAD!!" Then Verve continued to play and she climbed up on stage REALLY slowly and the security grabbed her and took her away. When the song was over Richard came and waved, "Good-bye, I'll miss you." |
