| man it was a long time ago but here's what I remember:
The sybarite gig in soho NYC 10/28/92. I had heard about verve and their u.s. debut on New York University radio station. They had been playing verve tunes on that station so I knew the band was good. We got to the bar early and it did not look like the kind of place to see a gig. (It's been a vacant space now for awhile. I still pass by the place now and then and my mind travels back every time) I asked was there a band called verve playing here. bartender confirmed. The room filled and show started. We were drunk by this time. South pacific and Gravity grave stand out in my mind. I remember loosing my balance and falling off my chair twice because I was grooving to the music so much. I took a couple of photos. I think I recognize my yelling after some songs on the Voyager 1 disc. I believe this was the gig that some of the songs on that record were recorded. After the show someone outside was handing out adverts for the upcoming gigs in N.Y. I was off to CBGBs in 2 days time to see them again! There was a very spacy trippy atmosphere at that Sybarite show. |
