| I am from Chicago originally and this was one of the last
shows I saw in my hometown before leaving for California for good. One of
Chicago's strengths is the live shows there and the Cabaret Metro has one of
the best vibes of any club I have been too in north America. Verve came on late about 11:30 PM to the opening music that is heard on most live tapes form that tour ( "Holy are You"). They then kicked into Star sail and it blew me away, I had collected all the singles and was pretty up to speed with Verve when I saw them but I was in the minority that night. There were only about 5 Verveheads or whatever in the crowd and we were going nuts, everyone else was just standing back taking it all in. My dimestore psychology on Verve is that the USA did not how to take them when they arrived here in 1993, Verve were a high toned band that were pushing barriers...but I think that they came a little to soon for the Nirvana/Grunge scene that still had the grip on America .This is evidenced by the surge in new Verve fans who are just finding out now that that the party is over. So basically they played their asses off but the crowd was dead. They did six O'clock and I swear they did Beautiful Mind as well. Make It Til' Monday was in the set and the Gravity Grave was the final song and I clearly remember Nick sending some ear splitting feedback out of his amplifier trying to wake the crowd up I guess. The show was videotaped for JBTV in Chicago and they had a three camera set up for the shoot...somebody has the full show, but for now three songs and a interview are pretty easy to get from the JBTV broadcast.... |
