OCTOBER 19TH 2007 -
Name of new verve songs + reunion tour rehearsals |
|
|
The names of the new songs are:
Sit And Wonder
Judas
Appalachian Springs
Mona Lisa
Rather Be
They were revealed by Simon Jones in his blog. "Should I give titles away
yet?, I don't want to give the game away (already have), but I would like some
feedback on all this - now's the time to speak up! What have we missed that you
wanna hear? Is it too early to play new stuff? Do we skip the obvious? Do we do
the obscure? Let me know!"
"Richard
will be joining us later when we've gotten the music together. Gotta say - 'twas
the greatest few days playin' old tunes! Started with
'Life's An Ocean' and gotta say it made
the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! So far we got a shortlist of about 20
odd tunes to pool from for these first gigs, in no particular order we played -
'Make It Till Monday',
'Virtual World','She's
A Superstar', 'Gravity Grave','This
Is Music', 'A New Decade',
'On Your Own',
'History',
'Stormy Clouds',
'Life's An Ocean',
'A Northern Soul',
'All In The Mind!' (Sounded Amazing),
'B.S.S' ['Bitter
Sweat Symphony'], 'Drugs Don't Work',
'Sonnet',
'Lucky Man', 'Come On',
'Weeping Willow',
'Rolling People',
'Velvet Morning',
'Space And Time',
'Man Called Sun',
'Starsail' and new ones."
Jones added that, in addition to the new
songs he mentioned, the band had written a lot of new material which they intend
to record early next year.
"September was spent in Terry Britten's
amazing studio in Richmond. It's brimming
with vintage gear, an old E.M.I desk(Pink
Floyd -'Dark
Side Of The Moon' era) and billions of guitars, old analogue gear, a
treasure trove of effects pedals (Nick
like a kid in a toy shop!)," he explained.
"The sessions have been pretty amazing, we certainly have an embarrassment of
riches where material is concerned! We will need to do a lot of listening over
the next few months before we reconvene in the new year to pull it all together!
Plenty of hour long jams and killer choons! we just need to get the balance
right."

JULY
4TH 2007 - Further info
about the reunion |
|
|
Many talks
about how and why. Today we know a little more about it.
In todays NME, The Verve manager Jazz Summers has revealed why The Verve have
got back together.
"We did keep it quite quiet." explained the band's manager Jazz Summers. A
couple of moths ago, Richard Ashcroft had a conversation with me and said, "You
know we made fantastic music. I think it would be fantastic if we got back
together."
Despite their turbulent history - Ashcroft rang his former bandmates and
suggested they reconvene.
"We didn't make any decision until they'd been in the studio and made some
music, that's the reason for doing it." said Summers.
There have been suggestions that The Verve's return is all about generating
large amounts of cash.
"I think The Sun said they'd been offered £20 million to get back together,"
laughed Summers. "if they want to pay us £20m to do a gig then maybe, but no, it
was all about the music. They're all really excited about what happened in the
studio."
Ashcroft and McCabe, along with original bassist Simon Jones and drummer Pete
Salisbury will start work on an album in september.

Potentially huge Verve news |
|
|
Please, pay attention carefully to the email below: From: Dominic Mulligan
Date: 17.06.2007 22:56
Subject: [Verved-out] Potentially huge Verve news.
To: verved-out@yahoogroups.com
There's not been a lot of activity on this list, partly due to there not being
much in the way of Verve news. However, this may soon change...
I live in Wigan. Brian Cannon, after microdot folded, made a second career of
taxi driving here. My friend knows him (he's been on a few of the Oasis album
covers, so yeah, he definitely knows him) and Cannon told my mate that he'd
spoken to Richard, who'd stated that the band members had been offered £5
million each to reunite (~$10 million) and they'd accepted.
The Verve may be playing together again, soon. Still a rumour at this stage, but
given Richard's career is as good as dead and the rest of the band have done
virtually nothing and the rumour comes from a source I trust...

Richard Ashcroft joins Coldplay to perform Bittersweet Symphony
in the Live 8 concert |
|
|
COLDPLAY were joined onstage by former VERVE singer
RICHARD ASHCROFT at LIVE 8 today (July 2).
Continuing the theme of duets and collaborations which earlier saw Paul
McCartney and U2 open the concert with ’Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’,
Ashcroft joined the group for a version of his former group’s hit ’Bitter Sweet
Symphony’.
Speaking to the 200,000 strong crowd, Coldplay singer Chris Martin said: “This
is the greatest song ever written” before bringing the Verve man on.
Following the show Ashcroft said: “It was Chris' idea - it was poetry. It felt
right to be here singing this song on this stage.”
The performance came in the middle of a three song set which also included
Coldplay's 'In My Place' and 'Fix You'. During 'In My Place', Martin sang a
little of Status Quo's 'Rocking All Over The World', the track that opened Live
Aid 20 years ago. He also paid tribute to Bob Geldof declaring him a "hero of
our times" for his fight against poverty and his organising of the show.
